This course provides school resource officers and school security personnel with a basic understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
This course will provide school resource officers and school security personnel with a basic
understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and how students with autism behave,
communicate, and react in various situations. Furthermore, it will address high-risk and
crisis incidents and provide officers with tips and strategies to defuse and deescalate the
situation. The topics that are covered in this training include: typical law enforcement
tactics, crisis intervention techniques, interview techniques, Wes Kleinert Fair Interview
Act-F.s. 394, missing persons, elopement, and wandering, arrest, restraint and seclusion,
de-escalation techniques, tools of disclosure, and available resources.
