SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota residents are asked to share their thoughts about how the region should use federal funds designated for the homeless population in a survey open through Monday. The brief survey can be accessed online here. Feedback will be used to develop strategies to use the funds, according to a news release from the city. The Sarasota Office of Housing and Community Development, a joint office with the city of Sarasota and Sarasota County, will receive $3.1 million in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist individuals who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, fleeing domestic violence, human trafficking and other vulnerable populations, including veterans. The federal funds are being distributed through the Home Investment Partnerships Program American Rescue Plan.Funds may be used to provide rental housing, rental assistance and supportive services and non-congregate shelter to reduce homelessness, the city said.
