WALTHAM, MA — An employee at Bentley University in Waltham was featured on the Friday, Feb. 4 episode of Jeopardy!, according to the Bentley Buzz.
Molly Mastantuono, Bentley's Assistant Director of Academic Communications and a lifelong trivia fan, first tried out for the game show in 2004 when Jeopardy! hosted in-person tryouts at Hynes Convention Center, but never heard back. She tried out for the show again last April and was finally given her chance to compete.
"In July, they contacted me to participate in a mock game viz Zoom, where we used pens as clickers to buzz in with our answers," Mastantuono told the Bentley Buzz. "Then, one night in October, as I was putting my girls to bed, a contest coordinator called to invite me on the show."
Mastantuono made her Jeopardy! debut a month later in Culver City, California after spending much time practicing with co-workers. The show was hosted by Mayim Bialik, setting it apart from other episodes, and featured two other female contestants.
"I later found out that my taping was only the second time in Jeopardy! history where all three contestants and the host were women," Mastantuono said. "Since I have two young daughters, it meant a lot to me to be able show them that being female and being smart is cool!"
The first round of Mastantuono's game was challenging, but she made an impressive comeback in Double Jeopardy and accomplished her personal goal of making it to Final Jeopardy. In addition, to musician and platinum award-winning producer Einer Bankz, who was part of a Jeopardy! clue that Mastantuono answered correctly, gave her a shout-out on TikTok.
