Press release from the JAX Chamber: February 11, 2022   Please join Jacksonville Classical Academy East board chair Len W. Allen, vice chair Ambassador John D. Rood and JXCE head of school Alexandria Spry, M.Ed. for a brief tour of the new campus.   WHERE: Jacksonville Classical Academy East 5900 Fort Caroline Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32277   WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 15 10:00 a.m.   Jacksonville Classical Academy East is a tuition-free public charter school, a licensed user of the Hillsdale College K-12 curriculum through its Barney Charter School Initiative, and part of The Optima Foundation family of schools. In its first year, the school will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and will be open to approximately 366 students, selected by random lottery. Grades will be added each year to reach K-12. "Where other classical academies are at capacity for the upcoming school year, we are excited to meet families' demands for a classical education in Jacksonville with the opening of this school," said Rood. "This curriculum prioritizes teachers as subject matter experts and leaders in the classroom, and produces students who communicate effectively, are virtuous, possess cultural literacy, and are active and productive members of American society." The student selection lottery is now open and parent information meetings are being added to the calendar. The school's classical education model will offer students a sound curriculum based on the traditions of the liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue.    Head of School Alexandria Spry, M.Ed.   Alexandria Spry is the Head of School at Jacksonville Classical Academy East. She is originally from Manning, SC. Mrs. Spry grew up in a Christian home with a loving family who instilled the importance of good character and education into her at an early age.   Mrs. Spry graduated from Winston-Salem State University with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating from WSSU, she taught upper elementary school grades. She held various leadership roles throughout her teaching career that supported teachers and scholars, which motivated her to return to school to earn her master's degree. Mrs. Spry received a master's degree in Executive Leadership Studies with Administrative Licensure from Gardner-Webb University. After earning her graduate degree, she was promoted to a leadership position as an Instructional Facilitator. After working as an Instructional Facilitator, she decided to move to Jacksonville, FL, to further her career, Mrs. Spry served as an Assistant School Leader for several years at a local public charter school, and most recently served as the founding Dean of Students at Jacksonville Classical Academy. Mrs. Spry is married to an educator and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education and leadership.   About Jacksonville Classical Academy East Jacksonville Classical Academy East, located in the Arlington area, is a tuition-free public charter school opening in Fall 2022.
