MERIDEN, CT — A juvenile was charged with stealing a car and intentionally striking another vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest, according to a police statement. Police spotted a gray Lexus traveling in the area of West Main Street on Thursday.
Police determined the car was stolen out of Cheshire. Police followed the Lexus to Lewis Avenue and Columbia Street, where the car stopped at an intersection for a red light.
Police attempted to stop the Lexus, but the driver noticed police and "accelerated intentionally striking another vehicle to get out of traffic and evade being apprehended," according to police.
Police then used stop sticks causing the tires on the Lexus to deflate. The driver accelerated onto I-691 east with flat tires and eventually spun out in the area of Exit 10.
The driver then fled from the Lexus and ran into a wooded area off the highway. Police quickly apprehended the suspect.
The juvenile was charged with evading responsibility, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with police, reckless driving, third-degree larceny, and operating a motor vehicle without proper instructor.
