Your Arlington Last Updated: 11 February 2022 | Written by town clerk's office, Bob Sprague UPDATED Feb. 8: Arlington's 2022 town election is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Here are current steps to take before that: Town Meeting incumbent deadline to submit papers was extended to noon Monday, Feb. 7, because of the weather Feb. 4. The last day to request nomination papers is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. The clerk will be at Town Hall until 5 that day issuing nomination papers for both Town Meeting and townwide offices. All nomination papers due 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. Town Meeting has several open seats, because of redistricting, requiring all current meeting members in districts where lines have been redrawn to run again. Greatest needs are in these precincts: 2, 4, 7, 9, 11, 15, 17 and 19. The clerk will be at Town Hall that day receiving nomination papers. Candidates are not to use the Town Hall drop box on Friday. Bringing papers directly to the town clerk ensures candidates have documentation of receipt. In the event that bad weather closes Town Hall, look for updates here and be prepared to return papers to the Public Safety Building where staff are on duty and can time-stamp documents as received before the 5 p.m. deadline. An updated list of who is running for election this year, including which incumbents, includes the caveat that papers put in the drop box Feb. 4 and 5 haven't been counted. Note: New precinct boundaries need to be updated in the state database, so residents can't check now and know what precinct they will be in, which is especially important for people considering running for Town Meeting. The town clerk plans a mailing in February to all registered voters confirming precinct and polling location (in case any of them are changed by the Select Board following reprecincting). The census mailing will be delayed until the clerk's office has the new precinct numbers so the census will indicate the correct precincts. For a detailed explanation of the registration process, see the state website >> You can register online through the secretary of state website if you have a Mass. drivers license. You can also print the voter-registration form and submit it by mail, Town Hall drop box or by emailing a scan or photo of the signed form. This email address is being protected from spambots.
