No Schools Transition To Virtual Learning For Second Week In MOCO

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — No new schools are slated to transition to virtual learning for the second consecutive week in Montgomery County, the district said in a community message Thursday afternoon. All MCPS schools are now learning in person, as the last four schools that had transitioned to virtual learning returned to in-person school Thursday. "MCPS will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 and school operations on in-person learning and, if necessary, identify schools for temporary virtual learning," the district said in its message. MCPS will distribute 190,000 rapid test kits to all students and staff through March, it said in the community message. In February, 50,000 will be sent home with students. The district also noted the selection of its new permanent superintendent, Monifa McKnight, who has served as the acting superintendent since Jack Smith retired in spring 2021. The Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint McKnight at its meeting Tuesday. "I pledge to you all of me. This is a moment for which I have prepared my entire professional life, the majority of which I have spent here in Montgomery County Public Schools," McKnight said in a letter to the community this week. "Together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish."
