JERSEY CITY, NJ — A young woman from Woodbridge was involved in a fatal wrong-way accident Thursday morning in Jersey City, according to law enforcement there. A 52-year-old man was killed in the crash, but the 20-year-old woman, from the Fords section of Woodbridge, was not seriously injured. The crash happened at 10:40 a.m. on the Rt. 9 Shawn Carson and Robert Nguyen Memorial Bridge; three cars had collided on the bridge, said the Hudson County Prosecutor. Police say a 52-year-old man driving a 2015 Nissan Altima was driving the wrong way — west in the eastbound lane of the bridge — when his car sideswiped a 2012 Kia sedan, driven by the 20-year-old Fords woman. The 52-year-old continued on the wrong side of the road before crashing head-on with a 2018 Hyundai sedan, driven by a 28-year-old Jersey City man. The Nissan Altima driver was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:13 a.m. Both other drivers were injured in the crash, but the Fords woman declined medical attention. The third driver had to be taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for injuries not considered life threatening. Get great local New Jersey news.
