Press release from City of Fort Worth: February 10, 2022 This is the latest in a series of articles discussing projects proposed in the May 7 Bond election. Avondale Haslet Road connects the western limits of the Haslet Parkway Project that the City of Haslet is currently constructing with funds received from a federal grant awarded in 2018. Included in this arterial widening project are intersection capacity improvements in the form of traffic signals at Willow Springs Road North, Willow Springs Road South and Sendera Ranch Boulevard. The City of Fort Worth has received funding assistance from Tarrant County through the Tarrant County 2021 Transportation Bond Program Call for Projects for this regionally significant arterial. Design for this project began with kickoff funding from the 2018 City of Fort Worth Bond Program and is now 60% complete; right-of-way identification and acquisition are underway. If funding by the 2022 Bond Program is approved, right of way acquisition of nearly 50 parcels would continue this year and be completed in early 2023. Utility relocations would begin in 2023 and be completed by early 2024. This project is scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2024, once right of way and utility relocations are complete. The Avondale Haslet Road construction project, between Willow Creek Drive and John Day Road, consists of widening and reconstructing 2.4 miles of existing two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane divided concrete urban arterial that includes curb and gutter, internal drainage, two major creek crossings, streetlights and shared-use paths. Intersection capacity improvements are also planned for the major intersections along the corridor. Completion of Avondale Haslet Road would help with: Congestion mitigation and mobility improvements: Avondale Haslet Road carries a high volume of daily commuter traffic due to the large number of single-family homes in adjacent subdivisions. Additionally, there is a large amount of commercial development just west of the project limits, including a Walmart Supercenter. The roadway will be widened and provide a median to control access and to allow for turn lanes at intersections, increasing roadway capacity and reducing travel time. This project will also replace the current poor pavement condition, which will improve ride quality, reduce travel time and improve mobility. System connectivity: This project would complete the ultimate buildout of this major regional east-west corridor from U.S. 81 to I-35W, connecting to the western limits of the City of Haslet's Haslet Parkway project. Safety enhancements: Avondale Haslet Road will be widened with a raised median to control access and to allow for turn lanes at intersections, which will improve safety by reducing conflict points. Medians provide spatial separation between opposing lanes of traffic, which can lead to a reduction in head-on collisions. Both medians and turn lanes are proven safety countermeasures that will have a significant reduction in crashes and help implement the City of Fort Worth's Vision Zero Plan. Shared-use paths and traffic signal improvements will improve safety for both bicyclists and pedestrians.   Get articles like this in your inbox.
