Former Kennywood Classic Ride Sold, Will Move Closer To Home

GRAND ISLAND, NY — Kennywood's former Laser Loop ride, which emigrated to Mexico years ago, will gain new life back in the United States. Niagara Amusement Park and Splash World in Grand Island, NY, has purchased the ride and will have it installed in time for the 2022 season. Niagara said construction of the new ride will begin as soon as the weather permits. The Laser Loop was a key Kennywood attraction from 1980 to 1990, when it was dismantled to make way for the Steel Phantom coaster - now the Phantom's Revenge - that opened in 1991. From 1994-2019, the ride has operated as the Cascabel at La Feria Chapultepec Mágico in Mexico City. The new Niagara attraction does not have a name yet. But Kennywood historian Dave Hahner lobbied on social media for the park to return to the ride's initial name. "Please call it Laser Loop!" Hahner posted on the Niagara Facebook page. "That was its original name when it first operated at Kennywood in the 1980s." The amusement park is less than a four-hour drive from Pittsburgh.
