The City of Oak Forest has hired Michael Salamowicz as public works director, effective February 8.
"Michael really stood out to us during the interview process due to his extensive project management and engineering experience," said City Administrator Tim Kristin. "He is going to raise the bar by bringing contemporary ideas and best practices to the position and department."
Most recently, Salamowicz served as the development services director for the Village of Homer Glen – overseeing all engineering projects within the village, including plan reviews, roadway projects, and storm water management. In this role, Salamowicz worked closely with developers, contractors and engineers to ensure work was completed on time and in accordance with village codes and regulations. He also developed the village's first utility billing system.
Earlier in his career, Salamowicz worked as a project engineer for several companies – managing projects from start to finish. In particular, he served as the resident engineer for the U.S. Route 6 expansion, the I-355 south extension, and a development with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Salamowicz holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University.
