BELMONT, CA — The City of Belmont finally broke ground on a long-awaited project to install synthetic turf on the North Field of the Belmont Sports Complex at 550 Island Parkway.
City officials held the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, March 3.
The project includes replacement of all subsurface drainage, installation of synthetic turf playing surface, and other safety, ADA and energy efficiency upgrades. The field will be striped for U12 and U19 soccer, baseball, and lacrosse.
The project will provide athletes from Belmont, the greater San Mateo County area and beyond with a consistent, safe playing surface and reduces water consumption.
The field improvements were designed by Callander Associates Landscape Architects. Robert A Bothman Construction Company has been engaged to execute the project.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a loan to the City of Belmont to allow this project to break ground and proceed.
"We're very excited to begin this project," Belmont Mayor Warren Lieberman said in a statement.
"City Staff, Parks and Recreation Commissioners and Belmont Youth Sports folks have been working towards this moment for over a decade. The support of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, County Manager and staff has made it possible for us to begin today, and we are grateful."
