JOLIET, IL — The city of Joliet's zoning board meets at 2 p.m. next Thursday to consider a special use permit for an automobile maintenance facility proposed at 2505 West Jefferson St. According to city reports, the 1.1-acre vacant parcel is zoned for general business. D'Arcy Motors used the property in recent years to display its inventory of automobiles. Before that, a Burger King fast-food restaurant stood there, until it was torn down in the mid-2000s. If the special use permit is approved, Take 5 Oil Change intends to build a 1,520-square-foot building at the site. Take 5 Oil Change's construction project includes three service bays, a small office and a restroom. "We have 677 locations ready to provide you the best oil change experience possible," the company website informs people. Take 5 Oil Change has locations across the country and several businesses scattered around Illinois. The closest ones to Joliet include: Midlothian, Schaumburg, Palos Heights, Oak Lawn, Woodridge as well as Peru and Bourbonnais. "Take 5's business model is that customers stay inside their vehicles while the vehicles get serviced and that the servicing should take approximately five minutes," city of Joliet documents indicate. Take 5's oil change business would employ eight to 10 people per shift, and be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Joliet zoning board functions as an advisory panel. Joliet's City Council is the final authority. Image via Google Maps
