Description
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — No injuries were reported in a fire that broke out Friday afternoon on the top floor of an Upper East Side apartment building.
The fire was reported at 3:27 p.m. on the fifth floor of 126 East 83rd St., a five-story building between Park and Lexington Avenues — just one door down from the New York Republican County Committee headquarters.
Video from the scene showed flames and plumes of smoke billowing out of two top-floor windows, as firetruck sent a crewmember up on a ladder to fight the blaze at a closer distance.
About 60 crew members at the scene had the fire under control by 4:06 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said. The cause was not immediately clear.
