WEST ISLIP, NY — A fire broke out at a West Islip home on Friday morning, Suffolk County Police said. According to the West Islip Fire Department, firefighters arrived at a home on Sylvia Drive and quickly stretched hose lines. Additional fire crews arrived shortly after, and the fire took about 45 minutes to bring under control, fire officials said. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house, West Islip Fire Department said. (Ken Bradbury) Suffolk County Police confirmed that people were home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured. The cause is under investigation but non-criminal in nature, police said.
