London Ladd '95 created this image for the New York Times book review of Yonder. "There's a love and connectedness. You see the heads joining but you don't see the facial expressions. Too much detail can take away from the emotions sometimes," Ladd said.
Happy Black History Month! With February in full swing, OCC is hosting a full slate of celebratory events across campus that further meaningful discussions and honor the histories, cultures, and achievements of Black community members.
Here are the upcoming events for this month:
February 9th: We will be hosting "Hidden Meanings: A discussion about Microaggressions" Mawhinney, Room M390, 12:15-1:15pm
February 21st: We will be hosting "Food Good for the Soul: A discussion about African American Cuisine" Whitney, Room W301, 12:15-1:15pm
February 23rd: "Unity Day" – Come and join us for Soul Food Cuisine Mawhinney, 1st Floor, 12:15-1:15pm
Black History Month was created by historian, Carter G. Woodson in 1926 and later nationally recognized in 1976. Beginning February 1st to March 1st, this month is dedicated to showcasing the triumphs, histories, and cultures of past and present Black community members.
