ATLANTA, GA — Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan opposes the formation of a Buckhead City, and Thursday he acknowledged his reservations about splitting off the northern neighborhood from Atlanta. In an interview Thursday with Atlanta Journal-Constitution political reporter Greg Bluestein, Duncan said the secession effort has moved forward with too many unknown variables. "I and others have put out some important questions that have not yet been answered," he said. "What is the strategy to stem crime? What is the strategy to deal with Atlanta public schools in the city's footprint? What are the finance ideas around the bond package?" In the meantime, Duncan moved the question of the referendum for secession and cityhood to the Democrat-controlled Senate Urban Affairs committee where the majority of its members oppose a Buckhead City.
