On call Manual Laborer - Various Tasks
Jobs
Beaverton OR
Description
My usual long-term helpers have become unreliable and I'm looking to start a new list of potential helpers. Ideally, you'd be available for the next 6+ months. I'd like to call the same person or few people vs. trying to find someone new every single time I need something done. Some work I have to do requires the ability to lift, carry, move 50-100+ pounds. Sometimes, you can use things to assist you, other times, it's just dead lifting (usually <100 pounds). The heavy lifting can vary from a few minutes to up to an hour or so. I put this up front because you have to be really physically fit to do this job...and preferably have no allergies. When I don't have heavy lifting projects, there are other menial type things to be done. Often times, it's dirty work - dirt, mud, grime, pet hair, dust, etc. Could be loading/unloading boxes, cleaning, packing/unpacking boxes, loading/unloading materials (i.e., supply run), yard work, livestock wrangling, car detailing, minor house maintenance/repair, errands, assisting me with whatever project I'm working on - could be putting up a fence, taking one down, building an animal shelter of some kind, etc. I almost never ask someone to do something that I haven't done myself at one time or another. Before my physical health took a nosedive, I used to do everything myself. As things deteriorated, I had to hire helpers. That worked OK for awhile, but the helpers started slacking and now I find myself in the hole again. My goal is to get everything pared down and streamlined so that I can, once again, manage on my own, or with very little assistance. I don't have a specific list or schedule of activities at the moment. My needs are very much on call. I can usually provide 48 hours notice (minimum) to try to schedule something. To mitigate wasting anyone's time, I can generally say minimum 2 hours pay (unless a shorter job, then I try to just pay more for the time). Many things I have to do can take 3-4 hours at a time. I can pay cash daily at end of shift, or via most online apps. I am also happy to tip for excellent work (excellence can just be about attitude in many cases). Right now, I could probably use someone around once a week. I have a very busy schedule so sometimes, I don't always have the time to do side projects every single week. Unless we've been working together for awhile and trust has been established, I don't allow anyone to work on site unsupervised. Work could be in Beaverton or Tualatin, or at points along the way. I generally provide all needed tools and supplies. I mainly just need the manpower. I usually know how I want things done, and what's the most efficient way to do it. When I need opinions and suggestions though, I am not opposed to asking, otherwise, I'm looking for people who understand their role (you're the laborer, I'm the project manager). Skills and aptitudes that are essential: able to take directions, able to communicate, reliable, trustworthy, hard-working, efficient, attentive to detail, flexible, easy-going, good sense of humor, tolerant, patient, polite, able to self-manage, coachable. I generally do not care what you do in your personal life or on your own time; it's none of my business. However, I'd prefer no drug addicts (not a judgement, just an observation that they aren't generally physically healthy enough or reliable enough to meet my needs). If you must smoke cigarettes or vape on site, I prefer it be minimally and without a trace. You'd be responsible for providing all your own beverages, snacks, and any personal protection equipment (including work gloves, boots, coats, etc.) that you require (gloves and boots highly recommended). I'm not into Covid hype so if you need me to wear a mask and/or be vaccinated, no need to apply. I respect your own personal choices however. If you commit to a shift and then cancel last minute or don't show, I will remove your name from the list. There is a bus stop a few blocks away, but driving is a plus. BONUS if you have a truck (I usually have my own, but sometimes it's in the shop). I usually pay around $20/hr, but depends on the job and the number of hours (i.e., could be more). Some people have preferred to barter and I have traded to them things like food, professional services, and various items around the house (if a job was worth $60 cash, I'd try to trade $100 worth of whatever). Cash is easiest, but open to other options. I'm fairly accommodating and very appreciative of any assistance. My expectations are pretty minimal, but I do expect work to be completed correctly and within reasonable amount of time. If this sounds like something you'd be up for, respond with your name and preferred method of contact. It would be nice if you'd mention something about your availability and any specific skills and/or experience that you have. Finally, if there are things you will not do, absolute deal breakers, be sure to mention those too. Due to insane amount of spam, all initial communication will be via CL relay. Thanks for looking!
