Steelhead Enterprises is a privately owned and operated wildland firefighting company that is established in the Columbia River Gorge. Steelhead runs 20 person hand crews and Type 6 Engines. We are a professional company with a great reputation and many years experience. As Wildland Firefighters we believe you deserve the best!! Which is why we employ professional instructors from the NWSA to provide you with the best training. We also provide our employees with top quality fire equipment and new certified vehicles every year because we value our employees SAFETY!! Our employees often travel around the United States and get to meet new people and see new places. We also have the opportunity to help our local communities when they are in need. WE ARE NOW HIRING new employees for the 2022 fire season. Entry level firefighters will be required to complete a 40 hour training program and a physical fitness test (3 miles walking with a 45lb pack in 45min). ALSO HIRING FFT1, crew boss’s and Engine boss’s. Very competitive wages. Requirements: Be 18 years or older Must have a valid ID (drivers license, passport, state id) Pass physical fitness test (3 mile walk in under 45 minutes carrying a 45 pound pack) Can travel outside of Oregon Maintain a professional appearance and a positive attitude Be within 2 hours of The Dalles Be qualified as a wildland firefighter (training provided free of charge) Wages: First year firefighters starting wage is $19.54/hr + overtime. Firefighters with previous experience will be evaluated on an individual bases. Fire season typically runs from June through September. What to Expect: Firefighting is strenuous work, a lot of hiking and it requires you to be in good physical condition. We have a two hour window to assemble so quick response time is a must. One should be able to leave for two weeks at a time, but on occasion up to four weeks. Traveling to remote areas; with long days, 12-16 hours shifts, and 100 hour weeks are common.
