Rare opportunity to crew for a family who has been commercially set-net salmon fishing in Bristol Bay Alaska for 36 years. Our cabin is in Ekuk Beach, Nushagak District of Bristol Bay.   We have one open position. Approximate dates would be middle of May to late July or early August 2022. Actual dates will be finalized in early March. Middle of May until beginning of June is pre-season work. Pre-season work is not fishing, it is opening camp, mechanical and building work. Requirements and Skills: This job is physically and mentally demanding. Must be able to stand on your feet for over five hours a day, lift heavy things, etc. We work long days and sometimes at all hours of the night. You will have some rest time but this position is on-call 24/7. We are looking for a family oriented person. Our total team is five people. No smoking or alcohol. Must comfortably drive stick. Must have basic mechanical knowledge and experience with 4WD diesel trucks and generators. Basic building skills are helpful but not required. Personality and attitude are also important traits we are looking for.  Living Situation: We all live in one cabin (you will have your own room). It is tight quarters with minimal privacy so we need to get along and communicate well. This is a summer fishing village only accessible by boat or bush plane. You will be completely off the grid, no phone or internet. You will have access to our shared cell phone and you can mail and receive letters. You will be expected to keep the common areas clear of personal possessions and participate in the usual cabin chores. Dinners are provided. You are responsible for making breakfast and lunches for yourself as well as meals during pre-season.  More About the Job: Fishing usually starts around June 20th and continues until the end of July, possibly a few days into August. We fish twice a day around the clock so you will sometimes be waking up at odd hours. In addition to fishing our site, we spend around five hours per day processing our home pack in our own processing building.  Compensation: Crew share at a fixed percentage of what we receive from selling fish to a processor and also a fixed percentage paid monthly of proceeds from private sales of our salmon, which we process ourselves at our own facility. All travel, meals and lodging are paid and provided by us.  We are looking for someone who can become part of our team.
