Field Laborer Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range Reports to Foreman Laborer provides support and assists other field operations. The role of Laborer includes manual labor, as well as assisting other trades to the extent necessary with hands-on work. Scope of Position Supports all aspects related construction tasks. Essential Functions of Position Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.). Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Responsibilities • Working cooperatively with the crew to accomplish tasks; • Maintaining tools, cords and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use; • Maintaining the work area(s) in a clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis; • Consistently reporting for work on time and in appropriate attire; • Assist in creating lists of materials, supplies, specialty tools and equipment (proactively) that are needed to perform the work; • Make the Superintendent/Foreman aware of any material, supply or other shortages on the job in a timely manner; • Participating in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety and other skills. Minimum Qualifications • A minimum of 0-3 years of directly related experience in the civil construction field; • Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.); • The ability to comprehend and follow specific instructions; • Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organizational skills, ability to plan, being dependable and the ability to work with others in a team environment; • Must be able to be issued a badge to work at the project sites that have this requirement. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Typical 40-60 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Travel to jobsites Required Education and Experience 1. High school education or GED. 2.
