Summary of Position: The School Maintenance Technician will be responsible primarily for general maintenance and repairs inside and out of the campuses located in the Portland area. There may be occasional travel to Springfield and Eugene. This position will perform repairs on basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, kitchen and laundry equipment. Ensure the established cleaning and maintenance standards Northwest College and State Regulations require are completed. Must be able to travel, pass background and have a valid Oregon Driver license. Duties & Responsibilities: Excellent time management skills with ability to work efficiently with little supervision a must. Responds to maintenance and safety concerns and performs preventative maintenance projects in Beaverton, Tualatin, Hillsboro and Happy Valley. Occasional trips to Springfield and Eugene for specific projects. Supports school and corporate staff with maintenance projects and executes daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checklists. Assists management in specifying proper supplies and equipment for operations. Occasionally assist with appliance removal and installation and oversee and assist in flooring repair, cleaning and waxing. Clean and restock restrooms, ensuring toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions and floor are clean, disinfected and free of debris. Mirror is clean and free of spots and smudges. Trash is emptied. Assist with cleaning and dusting spaces that require working on a ladder, walls, doors/door jams, baseboards, windows, etc. Removing dirt, scuffs and fingerprints. Replace light bulbs. Painting/touch-up painting, general wall repair and maintenance. Responsible for being at work every scheduled day, on time Drywall repair, patching and finishing. Basic Plumbing knowledge (can you replace toilet valves and garbage disposals?) Experience in water heater maintenance and replacement may be needed. Basic Electrical understanding for troubleshooting issues. Must be able to change fluorescent light bulbs, ballasts, etc. Carpet cleaning and scheduling floor waxing when needed. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Strong basic knowledge of building maintenance and at least 2 years’ experience in a related field Need to be able to work with minimal supervision and multitask Ability to carry, lift or move heavy, large, or cumbersome items Must be able to drive company van between locations. A current Oregon driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record is required as well as insurance Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems and be able to perform simple repairs Ability to communicate effectively with other staff members Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to work assigned shifts with occasional overtime or after hours calls for maintenance emergencies Flexibility to assist other departments when help is needed Experience with cleaning and painting Ability to communicate effectively, preferably bi-lingual in English and Spanish Ability to use various kinds of equipment and tools safely Ability to take direction for different people A genuine desire to learn and to become a key team player Ability to push, pull and or lift up to 50lbs. Ability to work all shifts and all days of the week Ability to take direction from different people Education/Experience Required: High School diploma or GED, related maintenance experience – minimum of 2 years training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. License Requirement: The employee will be required to have and maintain a valid state driver’s license with a current address and acceptable driving record. Should be able to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission (stick shift). Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers and other employees of the company. Customer Service Skills: Ability to effectively respond positively to customer problems or complaints. Other Attributes: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but standard written or oral instructions. Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; able to deal with change, delays or unexpected events. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb a ladder; and use hands. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb and balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
