Description

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Johns Creek is one of the safer cities in Georgia, according to a survey released earlier this month by a website that tracks crime and security. SafeWise ranks Johns Creek second on its list of Georgia's 50 Safest Cities of 2020. Johns Creek was one of two Georgia cities to crack the list of America's 100 Safest Cities, coming in at No. 85. Milton was the only other Georgia city on the list at No. 55. The survey ranked 127 Georgia cities. Nearby Milton is ranked third, Alpharetta came in No. 13, Duluth at No. 14 and Roswell at No. 19. SafeWise ranks cities in Georgia and other states based on both violent crimes and property crimes as reported to the FBI. While Georgia's violent crime rate is low versus the national rate — 3.3 incidents per 1,000 versus 3.7 incidents nationwide, its property-crime rate is considerably higher, at 25.7 incidents per 1,000 versus a national rate of 22.0. Johns Creek reported 0.3 violent crimes per 1,000 and 6.7 property crimes per 1,000 — considerably fewer violent crimes but about the same number of property crimes as the rest of the state. Milton reported 0.2 violent crimes per 1,000, and 7.6 property crimes per 1,000. SafeWise's 10 safest Georgia cities are Braselton, Johns Creek, Milton, Senoia, Summerville, Holly Springs, Tyrone, Peachtree City, Chatsworth and Grovetown. Milton ranked 55th nationally, and Johns Creek ranked 85th nationally. Crime rates were computers for cities that met SafeWise's population threshold, which is based on the median population of the state. If a city isn't included, it either didn't meet that threshold or didn't submit crime statistics to the FBI. SafeWise's list of Georgia's safest cities can be found here.
