homeless shelter system

New York City NY

Description

I'm thinking of entering the homeless shelter system within the city. Has anyone ever been in the homeless shelter system? How was your experience? I'm a dude who works and earns one or two hundred dollars each month. I might temporarily live in a homeless shelter for a month. I've not been in a city shelter. I tried entering one but I saw condoms at the entrance so I left. Do people get better treatment for legally working and earning money while living in a homeless shelter within the city? I've been to out-of-city shelters. I had to sleep on chairs and there was a curfew. But I think working individuals were given better treatment and rooming. At the time, I wasn't working. Do individuals get lockers in the city shelters that can protect their stuff? My stuff was stolen last time in an out-of-city shelter. Is every homeless shelter within the city's homeless shelter system, or are there some private homeless shelters? I think that all shelters are under the city's homeless shelter system, but it would be nice to know if I'm incorrect since I feel that I might get better treatment in a private homeless shelter as a worker. If private schools exist, maybe private homeless shelters exist too? I'm likely going to visit the men's intake within the city, to get more answers. Feel free to share your experience within the city's shelter system as well as your background if you want (like race, age, gender, or etc.)
