New York Honors all veterans - on this special day we will commemorate service from LGBTQ+ Veterans who Served during the Vietnam War Era SAGEVets is honored to join forces with the New York State Division of Veterans' Services (DVS) and Long Island Cares, Inc. the Harry Chapin Food Bank Veterans Initiative (LIC) to honor National Vietnam War Veterans Day. We will be honoring those who served both in country, and during the Vietnam War era who identify as LGBTQ+ with signed New York State proclamations from Governor Hochul and a DVS Challenge Coin. Our keynote speaker is Barbara Salva, a transgender Vietnam War combat veteran of the U.S. Air Force, who is now an advocate for her fellow transgender adults, both in the community and at the Northport VA where she receives her health care.
