Raku & Horsehair Vases
Raku artist Tim Pfiffner is offering this class for you to create your own horsehair or Raku Vase. A bisque fired vase will be ready to glaze with either a copper patina turquoise crackle or white crackle glaze. If you prefer, Horse hair will be available to decorate a white vase in your own personal way. After your vase is glazed, it will be placed in a gas kiln, fired up to 1850 degrees F. Once it gets to temperature, you will be given the choice of taking it out of the kiln and placing it in a finishing reduction can. When this process is done, your vase will be placed in a bucket of water to cool down. You will be taking your vase home that day. Or if you prefer, the vase will be taken out of the kiln at 1200 degrees F. and you can burn horsehair into the vase for decoration. Once the vase is cooled, you will wax it and take it home. Minimum age to attend the event is 16 years old.
