Description

Springtime means the Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy will resume their in-person meetings. We invite the public to join us for an upcoming fun event in April. But before that, our March meeting will include a special guest speaker. Did you know that the North End in Boston publishes a weekly newspaper? At the March meeting, Pam Donnaruma, publisher of the Post-Gazette, will answer questions about this long-running newspaper. Also known as the Italian-American Voice of Massachusetts, the paper started publishing over 100 years ago to share news among all the Italians coming to Massachusetts. Pam is the granddaughter of the original publisher! A lot has changed over the life of this now national newspaper, and Pam will share its story with us. In April, you are invited to a night of fun, laughs and fundraising. Our Annual Charity Auction is being planned for Tuesday April 19, 2022. It will be held at St. Joseph's parish hall in Wakefield. Further details about reserving tickets will be published as the date gets closer. This charity event is our primary fundraiser that allows us to give out scholarships to graduating high school seniors each year and to support the Lodge's other philanthropic endeavors including the Wakefield Food Pantry, Wakefield's Council of Clubs holiday food baskets, The Boys and Girls Club of Wakefield pasta dinner, Alzheimer's Association and Cooley's Anemia Foundation. We were thrilled to hear that our Lodge had a winner in the Grand Lodge January calendar raffle fundraiser. In addition, several other winning tickets were sold by lodge members. Congratulations to all of the winners. The Grand Lodge also gives out annual scholarships, and Wakefield lodge is happy to help with this fundraiser. If you are interested in becoming a member of our Lodge, we welcome hearing from you. Please contact President Paula Sasso for information at [email protected].
