PASCO COUNTY, FL — A teacher rushed to a nearby hospital following a Thursday morning crash at Anclote High School has been identified.
According to Pasco County Fire Rescue, a vehicle struck 28-year-old Ciara McKeon, trapping her underneath. The incident happened around 6:50 a.m. in the parking lot near the gymnasium, school officials said.
Following the crash, a school resource officer responded quickly with assistance from Anclote staff and students who were near the car loop. Pasco County deputies and Pasco Fire Rescue were also on scene.
McKeon is currently listed in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital, Pasco County Schools confirmed.
"Though her condition is serious, we have reason to be hopeful for her recovery," school district officials said in a statement.
School officials said McKeon has been teaching physical education at Anclote High School for two years and serves as the girl's tennis coach. She is very well known on campus and well-liked by students and staff.
The district said its crisis team responded to the school to support students and staff and sent additional staff to assist.
Details of the driver involved are unknown at this time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
