Description

Bus tour with lunch at the historic Woodmont Lodge, Fort Frederick and Camp Harding The Washington County Historical Society is excited to offer a private tour of Woodmont Lodge in Hancock, MD. This is truly a rare opportunity since the lodge is only open to the public once a year. Our tour will begin at the Washington County Historical Society at 9am. The first stop will be historic Fort Frederick, with a special guided tour. Next we travel to Woodmont Lodge (formerly the Woodmont Rod and Gun club) for lunch and a unique look at the history of the lodge. Camp Harding will be our last stop. The ride from Woodmont to Camp Harding will feature a 1918, rarely seen film of the self proclaimed ‘Vagabonds’, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone, as they were joined by President Warren G. Harding. https://dnr.maryland.gov/Pages/md-conservation-history/TravelersPart2.aspx. We expect this tour to sell out quickly. Because of seating constraints at the Woodmont Lodge, we are only offering 40 tickets. Founded in 1911, the Washington County Historical Society has played a significant role in preserving historic sites, artifacts and archival records for Washington County, Maryland. Located in downtown Hagerstown, the Miller House serves as the home of the historical society, the kinship Family Heritage Research Center, and the Miller House Museum. The museum gives visitors a taste of life in the 1850s and exhibits showcase important events in Washington County history.
