West Haven's Durante Pasta Issues Recall Over Allergy Concerns

WEST HAVEN, CT — State consumer officials are urging residents to check their freezers for mislabeled pasta that was recalled Thursday over allergy concerns. West Haven-based Durante Pasta, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Durante's Pasta Potato Gnocchi that may contain milk, an allergen, which is not on the label, according to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Food, Standards and Product Safety division. Milk is a common allergen that can "cause serious or life-threatening reactions to those who have an allergy and consume the product," according to a news release. The product may also contain undeclared sulfites, officials said. "It's incredibly important to ensure that food products are labeled appropriately, especially when they may contain allergens that can threaten our health," Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said. "We hope that consumers will take caution and return this product quickly if they have a milk or sulfite allergy, and we thank Durante Pasta for cooperating with the recall." The item was sold in select Connecticut stores, including: Liuzzi Market, North HavenCT Natural, WallingfordNorthford Store, NorthfordWestside Market, Rocky HillCharlie's Meat Market, North HavenShopRite Wallingford, WallingfordD&D Market, Wethersfield Customers with a milk or sulfite allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the affected product are urged not to consume it and dispose of it or return it to the point of purchase. No illnesses have been reported as of Thursday, according to Seagull. The product name is Durante Pasta Inc. Potato Gnocchi (16 ounces) with UPC number 85537005123.
