RIDGEFIELD, CT — First Selectman Rudy Marconi has presented his 2022-23 municipal budget to the Board of Selectmen.
The new spending plan represents a 2.7 percent increase over the current year's.
The proposed budget accommodates a new mechanic for the Fire and Highway Departments, as well as one full-time and one part-time clerk position in the Highway Department, and a part-time Building Department worker.
Another notable driver for the increase is the new annual cost of $66,000 for state-mandated police body and dashboard cameras.
The Board of Selectmen will meet again to discuss the budget on Feb. 28.
Members of the Board of Education will vote on superintendent Susie Da Silva's $107.4 million spending plan for the Ridgefield Public Schools next academic year on Feb. 14. Factors driving the proposed school budget include a 90-student increase in enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, new trends in special education, an increase in students with disabilities and a focus on mental health needs. The proposed schools budget represents a 4.98 percent increase over the current spending plan.
