Greenwich Resident Leora Levy Enters Race For U.S. Senate Seat

GREENWICH, CT — Leora Levy, a Greenwich resident and a National Republican Committeewoman for the State of Connecticut, announced earlier this week that she has entered the race for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Richard Blumenthal. Blumenthal told reporters in November 2020 that he would seek a third term in 2022. Levy now joins Republicans John Flynn, Robert Hyde, Themis Klarides and Peter Lumaj in the Senate race, according to the Greenwich Time. "Today begins the first step in our campaign to bring a conservative voice from Connecticut to the U.S. Senate," Levy said in her announcement Tuesday. "I am running to take on the far-left politicians whose policies will make our country look more like the Communist Cuba my family and I escaped in 1960 than the United States we have known and loved." Levy, a 33-year Greenwich resident, said in her announcement that while President Joe Biden isn't on the ballot this November, she believes his policies are. "The way to beat back Biden is to beat Dick Blumenthal, and I'm the conservative candidate who can get it done," she said. "I have decided to put half a million dollars of my own money into the race and will be fundraising aggressively around the country in the coming days and weeks." In January 2021, Levy was elected to represent the Northeast Region on the Executive Committee of the RNC. She has served as finance chair for two gubernatorial campaigns — Tom Foley 2014 and Bob Stefanowski in 2018 — and for the CT Republican Party from 2013 to 2015. In October of 2019, former President Donald Trump nominated Levy to be the ambassador to Chile, but she was never confirmed. Most recently, Levy sought the Republican nomination for the 36th District State Senate seat last summer. The seat was left open after Alex Kasser suddenly resigned in June 2021. However, fellow Republican Ryan Fazio was nominated, and ultimately won in a special election against Democrat Alexis Gevanter.
