Here are the top three stories in Burlington today: A lack of ice coverage on Lake Champlain is impacting the fish and plant life. The lake is not fully freezing due to increasing temperatures caused by global climate change. A frozen lake actually keeps the lake water warmer overall which is essential for a lot of fish and plant species within the ecosystem of the lake. (WCAX)Burlington's Mayor announced that the city's Fines for Food program donated $40,000 towards Feeding Chittenden's efforts. Over 800 people paid fines this last year which totaled over $80,000 with half of the funds used to fight food insecurity within the area. According to reports, over ten percent of the Burlington area faces food insecurity hardships. (Vermont Biz)Some Vermont citizens have taken to South Burlington streets in support of Canadian truck drivers who are protesting various COVID-related mandates. Protestors have gathered at the bridge overlooking I-90 waving Canadian flags and holding signs encouraging drivers to honk in support.
