DENVER, CO — Three spots in the Denver area made the American Transport and Research Institute's 2022 list for the worst truck bottlenecks in the country. The worst, according to the report, is at Interstate 70 and Interstate 25, a bottleneck that landed at no. 22 on the list. This 2022 report ranks this bottleneck slightly better than last year, when it took the no. 20 spot. That bottleneck is followed by I-70 at I-270, a bottleneck that landed at no. 40 on the list, a big improvement from last year, when it stood at no. 27. Denver's final feature on the list was I-25 at I-76, a bottleneck that made no. 58 on the 2022 list. New Jersey's bottleneck of I-95 at State Route 4 once again took the top spot on the list, with an average speed recorded of 30.1 miles per hour and a negligible 0.1 percent change in that speed from 2019 to 2021. The ATRI has been collating the annual list — which is generated by using GPS data from more than one million freight trucks — since 2002. The information is analyzed for date, time and speed information to come up with the rankings. "While 2020 saw greatly reduced traffic congestion as a result of car drivers sheltering in place, 2021 saw traffic levels rebound as more Americans returned to work and consumer demand for goods and services continued to grow," the report said. "Consequently, supply chain bottlenecks occurred throughout the country."
