Now, the city council cites the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report as a big motivator to cut greenhouse gases in Des Moines in the January 2021 report. Des Moines City Council member Josh Mandelbaum says that each climate report continues to reiterate the need for action. (WHO13)Lorilei Baker, a psychotherapist in West Des Moines, spoke at the Capitol in opposition to the bill House File 2309. The bill would prevent transgender girls from competing in sports that align with their gender identity and instead join the boys' teams. Baker stated that she was "concerned" about bills like this one and the negative impact on young transgender individuals, noting that "between 30 and 50 percent of trans youth will attempt suicide in their lifetime."
