Pothole Season: How To Report Needed Repairs In Newport

NEWPORT, RI — Spring is on the way in Rhode Island, and winter's cycle of freezing and thawing has done a number on streets. While state roads are out of the city's control, the city encouraged residents to report issues with local streets. "Pothole season has gotten off to an early and aggressive start this year," the city said. "And while potholes in coastal New England are to be expected, it's also important to know who to call when looking to get them fixed." Issues with locally maintained streets can be submitted using the city's online ReportIt! tool. Some of Newport's most heavily-trafficked roads are under state control, so potholes there should be reported directly to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. These include America's Cup Avenue, Memorial Boulevard, Admiral Kalbfus Road, JT Connell Highway and Farewell Street from America's Cup to JT Connell. An interactive map of state-maintained roads is available on the department's website. For their part, RIDOT said crews are hard at work fixing damaged states roads. "We're listening. We have ten crews out today filling potholes, and we will be out again tomorrow, doing our part to help improve Rhode Island roadways.," the department tweeted Wednesday.
