LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School's cheerleading team placed fourth at the 2022 IHSA Medium Division Cheerleading State Finals, which were contested at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington on Feb. 4-5. Led by head coach Bree Grady, Lemont pushed its streak of top five finishes to 17 years, the school said in a release. With a preliminary round score of 95.90, Lemont was tops among 25 teams in its division after the first day of competition. In the final round, Lemont posted a score of 93.67, missing out on a podium finish by one-tenth of a point, the school said. Crystal Lake Central (95.43) won its first IHSA Cheerleading State Championship, while Oak Forest (94.78) and Antioch (93.77) also earned state trophies. Grady's team includes seniors Abigail Cliff, Daleigh Johnson-Pawlak, Kaya Myrda, McKenna Phelan, Tess Sublette and Skylar Yabush; juniors Lindsey Letrich, Grace Marusarz, Abigail Nagel, Sydney Nelson, Taylor Tomczak and Hunter Wilson; sophomore Fawne Ford; and freshmen Jordan Cryer, Emma Lagan, Grace Markun, Ella Mierzwa, Molly Wallace and Ashley Wrublik. Lemont's cheerleading squad is one of only three athletic programs in school history to win an IHSA team state championship, having done so in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2018, the school said. Lemont also finished as the state runner-up in 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2016, and brought home third-place trophies in 2006 and 2012. Lemont also has won seven IHSA Sectional titles (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2018, 2020, 2022) and five SSC Blue crowns (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2022). The most decorated cheerleading program in state history, Lemont is joined by Conant, Lockport, Oak Forest and Sandburg as the only programs to advance to the IHSA State Finals each year since the IHSA State Series began in 2006, according to the school. Its 13 state trophies are the most in the history of the IHSA State Series for cheerleading; only Lockport (11) and Oak Forest (10) have won as many as 10 state trophies. With no worse than a fifth-place finish in any of its state finals appearances, Lemont is the only cheerleading program in the state to have finished among the state's top ten each year since 2006, the school said.
