BROOKLYN PARK, MN — The Osseo Area Learning Center was recognized last week as the best alternative school in Minnesota.
The Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs honored the learning center Feb. 4 with its School of the Year award, which is given to schools and programs that are a model for leadership, curriculum, structure, outcomes, outreach and innovation.
Two teachers nominated the Osseo Area Learning Center for its "individualized learning with high expectations," as well as its "welcoming and inclusive environment" and holistic support for students and their families, district officials said in a news release .
"The scholars at OALC are beautiful, brilliant learners who can and will achieve at high levels — when given the opportunity and support to do so," OALC teachers said in the release. "We have never seen a staff more willing and able to foster this brilliance among scholars."
The Osseo Area Learning Center offers an alternative high school program to District 279 students in grades 9-12 whose learned needs are better met in non-traditional academic settings.
