DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Congregational Church will host the first ever Social Justice Fair on Saturday, Feb. 19, an event consisting of multiple local organizations fighting for racial equity and social, economic, and environmental justice. The event, which is organized by Conscious Contra Costa in conjunction with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Contra Costa, will feature longer presentations about racial disparities in the criminal justice system from the Vera Institute of Justice, the Richmond-based Safe Return Project,Concord Communities Alliance /Free Press Project , and shorter ones by 15+ local organizations engaged in racial equity, social, economic, and environmental justice activities. The organizations will discuss, among other issues, racial inequalities in the legal system, homelessness, access to mental health support, and supporting people post-incarceration. Local organizations will also discuss an upcoming civic art project. The fair will take place from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Kairos Hall, and then outdoors, weather permitting.
