SANDY SPRINGS, GA – A man wanted in a two-year-old Ohio murder was arrested in Sandy Springs, officials said.
Sandy Springs Police S.W.A.T., U.S. Marshals, and members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force took Adarus Black into custody late Tuesday night.
Black, 19, was wanted on murder charges for the June 2020 shooting death of 18-year-old Na'Kia Crawford in Akron, OH, authorities said. Howard was shot several times in broad daylight as she was running errands for her grandmother, according to police reports.
Police from Ohio were able to track Black to an apartment complex on Greyfield Lane, and Tuesday Sandy Springs S.W.A.T. conducted a traffic stop where he was riding as a passenger in a car with a young woman, according to police.
Police bodycam footage captured the arrest and showed that Black had an assault rifle tucked in his coat when he was taken from the car. Investigators interviewed Black's companion and released her without charges.
Black was turned over to federal authorities and will remain in Atlanta until he can be extradited back to Ohio, authorities said.
