Description
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is reporting success in targeting the North Tryon area of Charlotte, according to the department.
In numbers obtained from the police department, North Tryon is leading all CMPD divisions with the most traffic stops at 808, and 31 gun seizures in January alone.
However, violent crime in the North Tryon division is down 15 percent from the beginning of 2021. Murder is down 50 percent, rape is down 100 percent, and robberies are down 41 percent.
CMPD held a press conference to discuss the efforts, calling them "corridors of opportunity" of traditionally high-crime areas.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, violent crime remained below historical norms. In 2022, while property crimes are elevated, violent crime is down 50 percent with no reported robberies.
