WHITE PLAINS, NY — Two incidents of thefts at the Westchester Mall are under investigation by the White Plains police.
White Plains Public Safety posted on Facebook that the agency was aware of recent social media posts and videos of the thefts.
"We take these incidents and the greater public safety concerns seriously," the agency said. "We continuously work and collaborate with the property management and security as well as individual stores to assist in crime prevention and security inside and outside the Mall.
Police said there were no weapons used and no one was injured in either incident, one of which happened more than a month ago, contrary to the social media post implying the incident was recent.
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said her office was aware of the reports of recent thefts at the mall.
"We understand how incidents like this create fear and anxiety in the community," she said.
Rocah said the White Plains police are investigating the thefts and her office will be involved when and if charges are brought to us by the police.
Former Westchester county executive and current gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino posted videos of the incidents on Twitter.
He cited what he called the pro-criminal policies of Gov. Kathy Hochul — meaning "no cash bail" — that are making communities all across the state less safe.
White Plains police said anyone with information about the theft should contact the agency. The tip line is 914-422-6256.
