COBB COUNTY, GA — A Floyd County man was arrested Sunday after a police say he flooded his motel room, damaged the walls and refused to checkout of his room on time, leading to a police standoff at the Kennesaw motel. Kristopher John Wheeler, 36, of Silver Creek, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Sunday by Cobb County police, according to jail records, after at least two hours of a police standoff. Officers were called to the motel because of a guest who had not checked out of his room by checkout time — which was noon — and who was "acting strange," according to an incident report obtained by the Marietta Daily Journal. While police tried to get him to leave the room, Wheeler refused, threw something heavy at the walls of the motel and ran the water for more than two hours, the MDJ reported, causing the room and an adjacent hallway to flood. Police found methamphetamine, 92 small plastic bags that police say are typically used to sell drugs and $3,645 in cash on Wheeler's person, the warrant said according to the MDJ. He was charged again when officers found about 2 ounces of marijuana in his underwear. He faces four felony charges — second degree criminal damage to property; intent to distribute a controlled substance; marijuana possession; and crossing guard lines with a controlled substance — as well as two misdemeanor charges of willful obstruction of law enforcement and criminal trespassing, according to Cobb jail records. Wheeler was booked into the Cobb County jail Sunday night, and he has not bonded out. His combined bond is set at $13,000.
