Small dog wanted for cancer patient

My mother is battling cancer and is begging for a small lap dog. I am looking for something small, friendly cat and kid friendly. I live with her to take care of her. So the dog will never be alone. We have a fenced in yard as well. I am looking to rescue not buy. Open to small rehoming fee. Nothing expensive as we pay for all meds etc out of pocket.
