SYOSSET, NY – Community officials are considering whether approval financial assistance for Amazon to construct a delivery facility in Syosset.
Legislator Arnold Drucker said the Nassau Community Industrial Development Agency is considering Amazon's application for financial assistance to build the delivery facility at Robbins Lane.
The online retail giant wants to build the warehouse on the former Cerro Wire site near Miller Place and Robbins Lane, Newsday reported. Joseph Saladino, the Oyster Bay town supervisor, told the newspaper the warehouse would be 200,000 square feet and be located on the southern side of the site near the Long Island Expressway.
"In light of the applicants' strong financial position and the given economic crisis, I am troubled by the applicants' request for financial assistance," Drucker said in a Facebook post Thursday.
Drucker said his main concerns include the impact to the environment, increased traffic and noise, and employment practices. He also said there are two schools located within close proximity of the proposed delivery facility site.
"Further, I am disappointed by the lack of a commitment to 100% union labor because those are the wages that middle-class Nassau County residents need to remain here in Nassau County," Drucker said in the Facebook post.
