Truck Destroyed By Flames On Long Island Expressway

SYOSSET, NY — A truck that was hauling grass on the Long Island Expressway caught fire early Sunday and was destroyed. The Syosset Volunteer Fire Department and a dual response engine company from the Jericho Volunteer Fire Department were called around 6:30 a.m. Sunday to the eastbound lanes of the expressway, near South Oyster Bay Road, officials said. Firefighters found a truck engulfed in flames on the shoulder of the expressway. Engine 585 arrived first and quickly poured water over the flames. No one was hurt. Three lanes of the expressway were closed as crews battled the blaze.
