SYOSSET, NY — Students from Syosset High School's Model UN recently won a collective team award as well as several individual awards, including a first-place award as best delegate on one crisis panel. The team of Aarushi Basmatkar, Matthew Pfeffer, Nandini Singh and Dylan Wechsler received the Best Small Delegation Award for a delegation of under 15 students at the Philips Exeter Academy Model UN Conference. The single- day conference, held virtually this fall, featured 300 student participants from 16 schools across the globe. Aarushi took first place as best delegate in her crisis committee. Nandini took second place as outstanding delegate in her economic and social council committee. Dylan and Matthew tied for third place with honorable delegate awards in their economic and social council committee. Model UN is a simulation of United Nations organizations where its participants take roles of ambassadors and delegates from various countries and debate current issues. Philips Exeter Academy has hosted its Model UN Conference for novice and experienced student delegates for 11 years.
