Description
Three top-tier writers share their secrets for crafting better, more personal stories. (Presented in partnership with New York Women In Film & Television) Craft can be studied and absorbed. Technique, however, is not what separates artists, rather it is our commitment to our visions and vulnerabilities that make us better storytellers. During this 90-minute panel, you’ll learn how to be honest without incriminating others and how to tap into the personal while maintaining boundaries. You’ll be reminded of the counter-intuitive truth that the more we explore our individual, emotional experiences of the world, the more universal our stories become. Naturally, this effort requires tremendous courage, thus we turn to a trio of trailblazers to guide us. Join acclaimed filmmakers Ellie Foumbi (OUR FATHER, THE DEVIL) and Madeleine Olnek (WILD NIGHTS WITH EMILY), author Mira Jacob (Good Talk) and Storyfinder/moderator Warren Etheredge for a candid and convivial conversation about what it takes to shape and share our stories to benefit audiences and ourselves. This is a pay-what-you-can/pay-what-you-will event. Proceeds benefit The Writers Lab (https://thewriterslab.nyc). Masks and proof of COVID vaccination required to attend. The Writers Lab was co-founded by Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilon, with New York Women in Film & Television. With programs in the US, the UK, and Europe, each Lab is a four-day development workshop followed by extended incubation and career support that serves women screenwriters over 40. TWL offers writers the opportunity to work intensively on their features and pilots with the support of established film professionals. Mentors and Writers engage in a rigorous process of script development through one-on-one meetings, panel discussions, peer workshops, and writers rooms. Interactions are designed to inspire the artists; to prompt creative exploration; to cultivate first-rate cinematic stories through revision; and to provide vital industry access. TWL honors the fact that gender is personal and specific and seeks to create an inclusive and supportive community. Warren Etheredge is a Storyfinder© and the Chief Storytelling Officer for Enthrall Sports. He is the founder of The Warren Report (thewarrenreport.com) and co-founder of TheFilmSchool (thefilmschool.com) and The Red Badge Project (theredbadgeproject.com). He has scored as the host of the television series Reel NW and the Emmy-nominated, The High Bar (thehighbar.tv). He is a produced playwright, a published author and an award-winning producer.
