Come bead with Visiting Artist Kathy King! 3-Hour Visiting Artist Workshop Date: Saturday, April 2, 2022 Time: 10am-1pm Description: Learn one basic beaded bead and 2-3 different embellishment techniques. Materials kits will include enough beads and ear wires for two sets of earrings in two different colorways and students will have a choice of at least two different kits. Students will leave the workshop with at least one pair of completed earrings. Tuition: $70 + $15 materials fee Materials: All materials will be provided. Kathy's Other Workshops: Kathy will be teaching two additional workshops at Contemporary Craft while she's in Pittsburgh. Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops. Refund Policy: Student refund requests for Visiting Artist workshops must be made at least two weeks before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. Medallion Necklace About the Artist Kathy King is an award-winning jewelry artist, beading instructor, and author of Bead Quilled Jewelry: New Beadwork Designs with Square Stitch. She uses needle and thread to hand weave thousands of tiny glass beads together to form wearable beaded sculptures. In 2008, Kathy developed an innovative bead weaving technique called "Bead Quilling" in which the holes of the glass beads and threads are exposed, allowing the thread color to become and integral part of the final design. Another signature component of Kathy's jewelry is the "beaded bead" in which she created intricate beads by weaving hundreds of smaller glass beads together. Kathy's innovative techniques have landed her sculptural designs on the cover of Bead & Button Magazine and in articles featured in Beadwork, Niche and Giftware News magazines. Kathy's work in strongly influenced by her engineering background. Her bead quilling technique allows her to weave together sturdy but flexible structures, which she can further embellish and build on. For color inspiration and shape combinations, Kathy enjoys looking to historical architecture and cultural patterns from around the world.
