Today I found out that my GP is quitting. I just started with her in July after changing insurance companies and having my previous doctor quit family practice. I think she (the most recent) knew she was going to quit when I first visited with her (she was about to take on family leave, but didn't have the courtesy to tell me then). I stupidly believed her office when they told me she was just postponing her return until this month after not coming back in January as planned. Then came two postponed appointments. Now they can offer me a DNP, who is probably very good, but she isn't an MD. Perhaps I am prejudice.
Why the title above? Because even though I totally understand that it has been a difficult two years because of COVID and the problems it has caused, I am totally frustrated with doctors who think leaving their patients behind is no big deal. Re-telling our medical history time and time again because doctors quit is both tiring and, I think, dangerous. The idea of having ONE doctor who is your PRIMARY CARE physician should mean that she/he/they know you and your body. He/she/they should be able to follow your health path over the years and help keep you on a good path. When you are changing PCPs so often they can't possibly keep track and as a patient it is stressful and bad for one's health.
Here I sit with a cardiologist who has told me to talk to my PCP about all the work he has done, but I have no PCP.... she quit, as did the one before her..... and........
